The government is hoping to encourage more sustainable construction methods among the UK''s homebuilders by introducing new standards for green housing.
John Healey, the country''s housing minister, believes that the development of more environmentally friendly homes will play a part in addressing climate change issues.
The minister has suggested that from the year 2016, the government hopes to see the introduction of energy efficient regulations which will apply to domestic properties.
Mr Healey has also noted that more sustainable homes will enable people to save money on their energy costs.
He said: ''These proposals present big changes ahead at a time when we are firming up Britain''s green credentials and strengthening our position for negotiations at the conference in a few weeks time.''
Earlier this month, Mr Healey outlined proposals to simplify the country''s planning system, to make it easier for householders looking to introduce new domestic renewable energy products to their properties.
