Sustainable construction: Mansfield set for first zero-carbon home

03-09-2010 Sustainable construction: Mansfield set for first zero-carbon home
An affordable housing scheme is underway in Nottinghamshire, which could encourage more architects and developers in the area to use sustainable construction products in their projects.

According to Build.co.uk, three eco-friendly houses are being built on an existing site, owned by Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) at Blake Street in Mansfield.

The website reported that the energy-efficient homes will be built to levels four, five and six of the Code for Sustainable Homes, making one of the dwellings the region's first zero-carbon property.

Councillor Heather Henshaw, portfolio holder for housing at Mansfield District Council told the news provider that the authority was ''thrilled'' to be supporting the scheme.

''As well as being beneficial to the environment, the scheme should also lead to major reductions in the cost of living for the tenants there,'' she added.

Meanwhile, planning permission has been granted in Northampton, allowing work to begin on a £2 million sustainable construction development of the town's marina.
