Many of the UK''s major players in sustainable construction and green building products have descended on the former GMEX in Manchester''s city centre for this year''s Greenbuild Expo 2010.

Organisations including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Building Research Establishment and the UK Green Building Council are among the thousands of industry professionals and members of the public to attend.

Stewart Purchase, director of housing at Geothermal International, explained yesterday, before the show started, how he was hoping there would be a good turnout to reflect growing public interest in sustainable construction.

He said: ''I''m hoping it will be good. We did the EcoBuild Exhibition in London recently which was absolutely rammed. It was very well attended – I think over 40,000 people in three days.''

Held at the Manchester Central, formerly the GMEX, on Wednesday May 26th and Thursday May 27th, the exhibition and conference will include talks from the Knowledge Transfer Network and the Institute of Historic Building Conservation
