The sustainable construction industry is not adapting quickly enough to the constant line of new green building products coming onto the market, according to eco construction supplier SIG.

Innovations using such technologies as phase change materials are underused by sustainable construction developers and are ''still not mainstream'', Vince Lunn, operations director at SIG has claimed.

Speaking at the Greenbuild Expo in Manchester, he said: ''Our biggest problem is that we can bring them to the market place, but unless people start designing them and start using them, they won''t become mainstream.''

Mr Lunn''s comments come after an announcement by the Department of Energy and Climate Change said that the Low Carbon Building Programme has now been closed to new applicants.

The scheme, which aimed to increase the uptake of low carbon building technology and sustainable construction products in the UK, has been closed in line with the government''s efforts to cut spending by £6 billion.
