Two state of the art eco-homes have been built on the site of a disused quarry, pushing forward the message of being environmentally friendly through the use of major energy saving measures such as solar PV panels.
This Is Sussex has reported that the Ashhurst Wood Reservoir has been defunct since the 1950s, sparking a bid to make the energy efficient housing a reality.
Home developer Holbeck & Lewis bought the site from South East Water in 2010 and has now built two homes, listed at £700,000 each, which use solar panels, under floor heating and other energy devices.
Holbeck & Lewis managing director Reg Richardson said: "We had the opportunity to buy this site and we went for it, because it's something so different."
These homes will now be more commercially viable than they would have been a few weeks back, after the government was told that its solar subsidy cuts were illegal.
