People living in South Cambridgeshire could soon be making savings on their energy bills as a result of the revival of a scheme to install solar PV panels atop council houses across the county.
The original plans had been scrapped after the government reduced the amount of money that panel owners, in this case the council, can make from selling excess energy to the National Grid from 43.3p per kilowatt hour, to 21p.
They have been revived now, however, after the government's moves were dubbed illegal by a High Court judge.
Mark Howell, council cabinet member for housing, told the Haverhill Echo: "The news that solar panels for some homes are back on the table will be more good news for people trying to make household budgets stretch further than ever."
Households eligible for the installations have been informed that they could see themselves saving somewhere in the region of £150 per year.
