A green funding scheme in Manchester has supported the installation of solar panels in one area of the city.

Based in the Charlestown region, a tower block has benefited from £85,000, which was allocated from the Manchester Carbon Innovation Fund to help introduce the solar technology.

Northwards Housing was given the money from the council-backed fund.

However, the project is just one of many that is said to have benefited from the environmental initiative.

Manchester City Council''s Richard Cowell noted that the funding is supporting the city''s wider climate change targets.

Councillor Cowell, the organisation''s executive member for the environment, commented: ''Manchester has launched one of the most ambitious plans to tackle climate change, and the city''s businesses and residents will be at the forefront of delivering this.''

Meanwhile, npower''s solar expert James Morgan recently pointed out the financial benefits that homeowners may enjoy if they install PV solar panels as part of the government''s feed-in tariff strategy.
