Residents of a Northumberland village are embarking on a crusade to make their area, which already benefits from photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, even greener.
Last year, Ingram managed to beat all of its north-east competitors to become a regional winner in the British Gas Green Streets competition, according to local newspaper The Journal.
With the help of industry experts, villagers have begun using the £140,000 prize awarded by the energy firm to create sustainable construction improvements, including the installation of 33 PV solar panels on the Village Hall''s roof.
Jack Welch, who is looking after Ingram on behalf of British Gas, told the newspaper that the solar PV additions were ''spectacular to see'' and ''visually really impressive''.
Sustainable construction products are also at the heart of an eco-friendly community centre currently being developed in West Yorkshire.
The new Enterprise and Arts Centre in Headingley will offer meeting rooms for community groups, as well as being fitted with PV solar panels for energy.
