Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels have been revealed as one of several sustainable construction solutions forming part of a proposed sports arena development, a newspaper has reported.
According to Worcester News, the University of Worcester''s £10 million sports centre will be built using eco construction products on the former site of a fruit and vegetable market in Hylton Road.
The arena, which will feature a bank of PV solar panels for the generation of renewable energy, will measure approximately 5,000 sq m and provide seating for up to 1,500 spectators.
Professor David Green, the university''s vice-chancellor, told the paper: ''The Worcester Arena will be a facility for the whole community. It will make a real difference.''
He added that the proposed arena would give many young people in the area a ''positive new focus''.
Last week, it was announced that in nearby Birmingham a new committee had been launched to help combat climate change through measures which may include sustainable construction and renewable energy generation.
