A group behind the installation of solar PV panels atop a local social hall has welcomed a grant from a community group which helped make the energy saving dream a reality.
The Sidford Social Hall has seen the start of work to save the local community council money on its energy bills through the installations thanks to a grant amounting to £4,500 from the Sid Vale Association’s (SVA) Keith Owen Fund Committee.
Reverend Handel Bennett, chairman of the Keith Owen Fund, told the Sidmouth Herald: "It has responded to the need to reduce carbon levels globally. The decision to use the latest technology available in solar voltaic cells will undoubtedly achieve positive results in both respects."
It is hoped that the hall and its owners will have to spend far less on their energy bills as a result of this grant and the fitting of the panels.
Recently, the Fowey Renewable Energy Enterprise (FREE) community group received funding from the Energy Saving Trust to make its area more efficient.
