September event to promote green building products

Between September 20th and 26th, a series of events will be held across the world in celebration of World Green Building Week, which aims to highlight the importance of green building products in sustainable construction.

According to the Independent, this year's event, organised by the World Green Building Council, hopes to raise the profile of sustainable construction products with a range of conferences, galas and festivals planned worldwide.

The newspaper explained how the majority of 'green' buildings conform to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, though some adhere to even tougher standards, being dubbed 'zero energy'.

''In addition to being environmentally friendly, green buildings also have health and economic benefits,'' the article added, citing a recent US study, which found employees working in LEED buildings to be generally more productive.

Meanwhile, the UK's energy regulator Ofgem has revealed that a record number of homes were fitted with green building products, such as photovoltaic solar panels in August.
