Selby residents turn to solar panels

Green-minded locals in Selby are looking to the future, and sustainability, by installing an array of solar PV panels atop the local community centre in order to protect the environment.

The installation on the Selby Community Centre follows other moves to improve efficiency in the building, such as the fitting of a more environmentally friendly boiler, and a proposed upgrade to draught proof double-glazed windows.

It is hoped that a combination of all these moves will help the community save on what it spends on energy costs in the centre.

Trust chairman Steve Shaw-Wright: "The trustees have invested in a new heating system, and hope to be successful with a funding application for new windows, but we've decided to install the solar panels as soon as possible."

Community centres are popular locations for solar panels, as local groups try to save more money, and a council in Reading has recently highlighted the centres as good areas for the installations.
