Renewable energy is becoming an important area of focus for a number of proposed building projects in the city of London, it is said.

Such devices could help some new projects to lower the amount of carbon they emit by as much as 30 per cent, according to London South Bank University research.

The Greater London Authority-backed study looked at the energy efficient proposals that were outlined in a variety of potential planning projects that were made to the office of the Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

Following the report, the mayor commented: ''With the majority of London''s carbon emissions coming from buildings, it is crucial that developers, planners and boroughs are encouraged to raise the bar when proposing new sites.''

Meanwhile, the government''s Department of Energy and Climate Change has recently revealed some of the schemes that are set to benefit from the financial support offered by its Deep Geothermal Challenge Fund.
