Those looking to replace or upgrade their photovoltaic (PV) solar panels should make sure that they recycle their old kit, it has been claimed.
The Independent has reported that those who do not properly dispose of their PV solar panels create an additional 600,000 tonnes of unrecycled waste each year.
It highlighted the fact that a number of companies currently offer a service where these pieces of kit can be recycled in an environmentally-friendly way.
Despite this, the newspaper sings the praises about the benefits that these innovations can bring to the UK.
It stated: ''The rapidly expanding market for [PV solar panels] brings obvious environmental benefits, encouraging the use of alternative energy resources and reducing the world's reliance on oil.''
Earlier this month, Fly.co.uk's James Folks claimed that photovoltaic solar panel schemes are being investigated by a number of UK councils, which have considered installing them on multi-storey car parks and on top of public buildings.
