A school has installed an array of solar PV panels, which it says will act not just as a way to save money on electricity bills, but also as educational tools for its pupils in order to help them learn about energy efficiency.

High Ham Primary School, near Langport, installed the 28 energy saving devices atop its building at a cost of £15,000, with plans having taken a year to complete.

Sir William Young, who is a governor at the school, told This is Somerset: "I had panels installed on my home 18 months ago and I thought if it works for us it will work for the school."

He went on to say that the school already had an eco club which was well attended by pupils who wanted to learn about ways they can help the environment, and went on to say that the panels will only help the school to teach them more about it.

Greenhill Primary in Wales was announced this week as being the first A+ rated eco-school in the UK.
