Sustainable construction is providing clean, renewable energy to a primary school in Muswell Hill, London, with the installation of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels on the building''s roof.
Rhodes Avenue Primary School switched on its bank of 24 PV solar panels at a summer fair on Saturday, June 19th, the Haringey Independent reported.
It is hoped that the new solar PV system will offer sustainable, low-cost energy and encourage pupils to consider the environment as well as the extra help that renewable energy can bring to the prevention of climate change.
Councillor Joe Goldberg, cabinet member for finance and sustainability, told the newspaper: ''It''s fantastic that these solar panels have been installed, and that pupils, teachers and parents will be able to experience first-hand the benefits of green energy.''
Rhodes Avenue is the first of three schools in the area to be fitted out with sustainable construction products and PV solar panels under the local Low Carbon Zone renewable energy initiative.
