A number of community schemes in Wales, which are to focus on the generation of renewable energy, have been given the support of the country''s environment minister.

As part of the UK-wide Low Carbon Community Challenge, it was confirmed earlier this month that three Welsh initiatives are to be offered financial support to help reach their sustainable goals.

The Welsh Assembly government''s Jane Davidson has welcomed the success of the green schemes in her country that are to receive the new funding.

''Cutting carbon emissions is an integral part of our One Wales agenda and I am delighted to see communities taking the initiative with innovative community projects,'' she commented.

While wind power appears to be one major area of focus for the Welsh projects, the Low Carbon Community Challenge is also offering support to nine other schemes which are looking to install the likes of insulation and solar power products.
