Solar panels are to be factored into the construction of a new leisure centre which is being created in the Matlock area.

Meanwhile, the £12 million building is also set to feature technologies relating to things like Combined Heating and Power.

This month has seen the beginning of work on the project, which is backed by the local district council, with an eight-lane swimming pool and main sports hall set to be developed.

Geoff Stevens, deputy leader of Derbyshire Dales District Council, believes that the leisure centre will respond to the desires of local residents.

He commented: ''We asked the community for a wish list and I am delighted to say we were able to deliver everything they wanted. We can''t wait now for summer 2011.''

The East Midlands Development Agency and Derbyshire Economic Partnership and Sport England have also provided financial support to the scheme.

Meanwhile, domestic property owners might be encouraged to adopt green technologies like PV solar panels in the near future with the support of the government''s feed-in tariff initiative which launches next month.
