The benefits of a green roofing project in one London borough have recently been outlined by a member of the government.
Sedum roofing on Lambeth''s Ethelred Estate was viewed by the country''s environment minister Hilary Benn during a trip to the area.
Mr Benn noted the important role that such measures can play in the UK''s attempts to reduce the threat of climate change.
He commented that the Ethelred Estate''s sustainable roofing ''will improve air quality, increase birds, bees and local wildlife'' and ''add to the insulation of the top floor flats''.
Backed by Lambeth Council, in collaboration with the Ethelred Tenant Management Organisation, the sustainable construction scheme is said to encompass ten of the estate''s buildings in total.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Manchester City Council is aiming to incorporate a number of sustainable measures into its Whitebeck Court development in the city''s Charlestown region.
