Infrastructure applications for a number of renewable energy and nuclear power sites are expected by the Infrastructure Planning Committee (IPC), the organisation has revealed.
The IPC expects to see applications for five large wind farm developments, along with a biomass station.
It also expects proposals for two nuclear power stations.
IPC chair Sir Michael Pitt commented: ''The projects we are highlighting today raise important issues for the nation and for local communities and we want the public to have confidence that their views will be heard.''
He added that members of the public should express their views about projects planned for their areas.
Applications will now be taken from the start of March next year, the IPC has announced.
Responding to the IPC''s announcement, the Confederation of British Industry''s director of business environment Dr Neil Bentley suggests it is encouraging to see that the body is looking to develop a more secure and low carbon energy system.
