Homeowners may benefit from the installation of more green building products relating to things like insulation in the future, as a part of a new government scheme.
It is hoped that the Warm Homes, Greener Homes Strategy launched by ministers this week will see insulation introduced to as many as six million domestic properties by the close of next year.
Meanwhile, smart meters and sustainable upgrade work are also set to be focused on as part of the scheme.
The country''s secretary for energy and climate change Ed Miliband believes that the initiative should prove advantageous both environmentally and financially.
''Making homes more energy efficient will help protect people from upward pressure on bills, tackle climate change and make us less reliant on imported energy,'' he commented.
Meanwhile, the government has recently reaffirmed its commitments to the renewable energy sector, with Mr Miliband signing a memorandum of understanding with Mitsubishi Power Systems Europe concerning wind power investment.
