An historic college in Winchester is set to move into the 21st century, after solar PV panels were approved for its roof in a bid to cut down on the money it spends on its energy bills.

Winchester College, a 14th century building, is going to see an installation of an array of panels atop its PE centre and support buildings, as it looks to generate its own power and drive down its carbon footprint.

Historic buildings are turning to solar power more often now, and St Peter and All Angels church in Wales was recently praised as being a shining light for the future.

Winchester College work bursar, John Wells, said: "It is important for the future of the college to harness new and reliable technologies and we are pleased to have invested in solar panels."
He added that despite its historic nature, the college was always looking forward.
