A new green skills centre is to open in South Wales later this year in a bid to develop more sustainable construction projects in the country.
Backed by British Gas and the Welsh Assembly government, the Green Skills Training Centre in Tredegar will offer guidance in things like renewable technologies.
With partners including Jobcentre Plus and JobMatch, the facility is expected to train more than 1,300 people every year to help develop regeneration and sustainable projects.
It hopes to arm people with the skills they require to find work in green technology and sustainable construction industries as Wales seeks to create a lower carbon society.
Phil Bentley, managing director at British Gas, commented: 'This is an exciting opportunity for British Gas to be involved with a unique skills centre which will deliver economic, environmental and social benefits.'
The Welsh Assembly government hopes to lower carbon emissions in devolved areas by three per cent a year from 2011.
