Green building products strategy ''heading in right direction''

A new energy efficiency strategy, which could encourage people to introduce green building products like insulation into their homes, may prove beneficial if it is set up in the correct manner, an expert suggests.

Director of business environment at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Dr Neil Bentley believes that the Warm Homes, Greener Homes proposals outlined by ministers could help people''s finances along with the environment.

However, he went on to say: ''Given that all homes need to be properly insulated within five years, much more needs to be done now to get millions of households on board.''

While aspects of the government''s plans, such as the introduction of a pay-as-you-save'' initiative, might offer support in the longer term, Dr Bentley suggests that there are a number of steps that could be taken now to enhance the country''s sustainability.

As many as 65,000 job opportunities may arise from the government''s strategy, ministers have noted.
