Homeowners may be able to save money during the winter months ahead by opting for green building products such as insulation, it has been suggested.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, measures such as cavity wall insulation and loft insulation can have a large role in helping people to cut their costs.
The organisation believes that on an annual basis, as much as £3.5 billion worth of energy is lost by domestic property owners.
Paula Owen, the trust''s energy doctor, believes that people might also consider getting rid of inefficient boilers to make further money savings.
She noted: ''By winterproofing your home you can cut down on the 50 per cent of heat lost through the walls and roof in an un-insulated home this winter.''
Last month, the Energy Saving Trust made recommendations for the kind of design smart meters should have in order to offer money saving benefits to the UK''s householders.
