A community building in Gloucestershire has generated almost 20,000 units of electricity from photovoltaic (PV) solar panels installed last year, which may be encouraging to developers investing in green building products.
The Gloucestershire Gazette reported that members of Cam Memorial Hall's committee would soon celebrate the achievement with a special energy day for the entire community.
PV solar panels were installed on the building's roof in a sustainable construction makeover in March 2009, which saw the introduction of other green building products such as insulation and draft-proofing.
Councillor Keith Pearce, a member of the memorial hall committee and parish councillor, told the news provider that the solar PV system had helped lower the building's running costs.
''Despite this winter being one of the coldest for years, the hall remained warm and received the lowest energy bills for many years,'' he said.
Earlier this week, the BBC reported that a Cotswold Norman church would soon be fitted with PV solar panels, making it the first zero-carbon place of worship in the UK.
