Demand for green building products may lead to more jobs

A number of job opportunities may arise in relation to sustainability due to consumer demand for green building products which are more eco-friendly in nature, it has been suggested.

James Murray, editor of the environmental website BusinessGreen.com, believes that there are likely to be more green jobs in the coming years.

He commented: ''Part of the reason there are going to be more green jobs is because of [the] demand from consumers and businesses for green energy and greener products.''

Mr Murray went on to say that energy efficiency needs to be promoted more to people in the near future, while the introduction of further ''carbon pricing'' could also be looked at.

Meanwhile, research published last month by Enterprise Rent-a-Car suggested that greener products are not proving popular among some of the country''s smaller firms, with one in ten of those small and medium-sized businesses questioned opting not to purchase such items.
