Regional assemblies might be able to focus more clearly on renewable technologies such as PV solar panels in the future thanks to the release of new guidelines from the government''s Department of Energy and Climate Change.
Along with solar power, it is hoped that the guidance might enable these organisations to see how their region could make the most of things like onshore wind turbines and hydro energy resources.
Lord Hunt, the country''s energy minister, suggested that regional assemblies will be able to review their renewable energy goals with a greater degree of clarity if they make use of the guidelines.
''These new guidelines will help to ensure that, in reviewing these targets, each is setting a target based on similar methods and assumptions,'' he stated.
Meanwhile, ministers are also hoping to improve the environmental credentials of many of the country''s non-residential buildings with the launch of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme next month.
