Solar panels are among the green building products that are set to be introduced to four council homes in the Crawley area.
Funding supplied by the Technology Strategy Board will enable the local council to make a number of sustainable improvements to the properties, as part of the Retrofit for the Future scheme.
Triple glazing and insulation are also to be included in the renovated houses.
Crawley Borough Council''s housing portfolio holder Jennifer Millar-Smith believes that the project should prove to be an interesting one.
''This is a really exciting project and officers in Crawley Homes did extremely well to secure this money,'' she noted.
The homes are situated in areas of the town including Furnace Green and Pound Hill.
Meanwhile, the capabilities of PV solar panels might also be considered by students taking part in a Biotecture Network competition being held in Northern Ireland, which is encouraging people to come up with sustainable house designs.
