A renewable energy site based in Cornwall is to receive an upgrade, it has been confirmed.

According to ScottishPower Renewables, the Carland Cross wind farm project, which is situated near Truro, will soon be capable of creating as much as 20MW of power, thanks to the introduction of ten new turbines.

The organisation''s managing director Keith Anderson has welcomed the fact that the repowering and upgrade work has been given the go-ahead.

''We now look forward to progressing construction of the project and continuing the area''s long standing association with renewable energy,'' he said.

The company''s plans are to be developed after permission was given by the Planning Inspectorate following an appeal.

Meanwhile, ScottishPower Renewables has also recently announced that it has been given permission by the country''s Crown Estate to take forward plans for a new offshore wind power site near the East Anglia region, in collaboration with Vattenfall.
