An estate in Battersea could be set to benefit from the installation of green building products, which might improve its insulation qualities in the future.

Wandsworth Council has rubber-stamped renovation proposals that would enhance the area''s York Road Estate, in a development that might also see double glazing introduced.

Martin D Johnson, housing spokesman for Wandsworth, believes that improvement work on the estate could lead to environmental benefits.

''Hundreds of homes would be warmer, more energy efficient and the estate''s carbon footprint would be radically reduced,'' he commented.

The £23 million project is now set to undergo a consultation scheme which will see various local residents take part.

Seven blocks currently make up the York Road Estate.

Meanwhile, the sustainable commitments of a number of firms based in the borough of Wandsworth were recently recognised by the area''s Green Business Awards scheme.

An awards ceremony was held earlier in February to celebrate the winners.
