The Queens Park Pavilion at Caterham has been built at a cost of £700,000 to replace a former structure destroyed by an arson attack. The new 400m2 sports development features a 16kW heat pump and 600m of ground loop that supplies an underfloor heating system. The heat pump uses a weather compensation control which ensures that units never product water hotter than is required to maintain the present indoor temperature.
As well as being used for sports ranging from badminton to martial arts, the pavilion is also available for hire and is currently used for playgroups, public meetings and dance classes.
Stithians Resource Centre Cornwall
Four years ago the Parish Council decided that Stithians was in need of a Resource Centre, which would incorporate a dedicated Pre-School, an IT Suite and a Library. The existing Village Hall needed a new kitchen and refurbishment of the Main Hall. After a lot of hard work by The Chair, Councillor Monica Biscoe and the then Village Hall Committee involving legal work, planning permission, and the raising of funding mainly through grants from the National Lottery, Objective One, The Parish Council, Low Carbon Buildings Programme and other organisations, building of the Centre was at last started on 23rd April 2007. The Council decided to install a ground source heat pump to reduce carbon emissions and keep running costs low.
